Yoga to Calm Anxiety

What if you could feel less overwhelmed by the stressors in your life? What if you could feel more in control of your emotions and your response to stress? Yoga to Calm Anxiety can help.

As part of my own journey in understanding the mind body connection, I became acutely aware of how traumas of all kinds, large and small, causes a breakdown in the mind-body connection with stifling effects to one's spirit.

You may have heard the phrase, “Our issues are in our tissues.” That’s because you can’t suppress an emotion without tightening a part of your body and the avoidance of overwhelming emotions is the number one obstacle that keeps us stuck in our anxiety.

TIMBo

Would you like to reduce the symptoms of anxiety and depression in your life? TIMBo is a 10-week, integrative mind-body program, specifically for women to help relieve these symptoms. It was designed as a peer support group and as a complement to traditional therapy. Two certified facilitators guide participants through a workbook-based curriculum that explores empowering concepts such as perspective, awareness, self-compassion and resilience. In addition, the program uses mindfulness practices, breathing techniques and simple yoga postures to create a safe space where you can learn to tolerate and calm the fight/flight response in your bodies, process difficult emotions, and learn to choose a different response to your triggers.

As David Emerson describes in his book Overcoming Trauma Through Yoga, "Trauma-sensitive yoga...moves beyond traditional talk therapies...by bringing the body actively into the healing process."

Student Quote: I loved the TIMBo program and gained valuable life knowledge that will definitely stick with me. The environment that Mary Beth and Tara helped to create was very open, non-judgmental, and supportive. I appreciated learning new breath techniques, yoga poses, and strategies to experience emotions in a healthy way. - J.K.

Mind. Body. Transformation. Books have the power to challenge our current thinking and give us new perspectives that can transform our lives. MBT Book Club combines book club discussion with a yoga practice. Studies have shown that yoga increases neuroplasticity, the ability to create new pathways or thought patterns in the brain which helps us better integrate our new perspectives. As we progress through the book, usually a chapter at a time, we meet weekly for discussion and yoga.

Student Quote: This class actually makes me look forward to Mondays! (Well, the class isn’t on Mondays anymore, but the sentiment still holds true!)
